CAD Tool Design
The Weston Boxes ‘Peel Off Box’ mould tool – Precision Plastic Injection Mould Tool Design and Manufacture.

S.B.Weston Ltd can design and manufacture plastic injection mould tools in house.
Whether it is a low cost, low run prototype mould or a high volume mould tool requiring robotic handling, S.B.Weston have the design
and build experience required.
Our toolroom has full CAD/CAM tooling facilities and a specialist CNC trained in house designer / machine programmer who will take the finalised component and model a fully functioning plastic injection mould around it.

CAM Tool Manufacture
We have access to diagnostic software which allows us to simulate the flow of plastic into the mould cavity. The software will detect flow restrictions, areas prone to weld lines, voids and sinks, shorting or flashing.
Maintenance and repair on in house tools can be done quickly and efficiently minimising the delay caused to the production process.
We store all our tools on site and can mould additional runs of your product in ten working days or less, thanks to our wide range of machines
the running, and inevitable tweaking for production when it arrives at S.B.Weston’s plant in West London.
The savings involved with Chinese tools are clearly appealing, however we always try to support UK industry and manufacturing and so prefer to tool up in house if it is feasable.
When we manufacture your tool in house you will be invited to view the progress. The standard of our toolmaking and the quality of the HASCO produced component parts we use such as their Hot Runner Systems is unrivaled. There is no overseas shipping involved and the tool upon completion is ready for testing and production. UK manufacturing of plastic injection moulds is more costly as a result of the price of raw materials and labour, however, lead times are greatly reduced due to the lack of transit .

Overseas Tooling
Due to the reduced costs involved in overseas tooling in the late 90’s, S.B.Weston began forming international working relations enabling us to remain competitive when quoting customers on jobs requiring new tool manufacture.
The exchange rate at the time favoured Chinese tool makers who additionally benifited from the massively reduced costs of raw materials and labour in the far east, and as such were able to quote lower by around half than any equivalent UK tool making quote we received.
The scenario still exists although not to such a degree, with the UK tooling making industry reviving due to fluxuating exchange rates, and the collective industry experience of the potential negative aspects of tooling in the far east which can, in some project scenarios, prevent it being an option at all. The communication issues which occour when translating precision engineering practices from English to Chinese are obvious, but also factors such as extended delivery times, extorsionate shipping costs and in general the gamble of working ‘blind’ on a tool and only seeing it when it finally arrives in the UK to run are not desirable and can all be avoided if the client is prepared to expend some extra outlay and use the UK tooling service provided by our in-house team.
S.B.Weston have forged reliable working relationships with two Chinese tool making companies over the last 5 years. Both companys communicate well, and have delivered what we consider to be over-engineered tools, above the necessary standard of toolbuilding we would expect to get in this country for similar money.
We would always advocate our in-house toolmaking team over Chinese tool production – it allows a much more hands on toolmaking experience where the client can see all stages of the work involved and can be involved in problem solving as issues occour. Our inhouse team – Spectra Moulds – have worked with us for many years and have produced many of our long running, high earning product tools.

CAD/CAM Tooling
Quality, Precision Engineered Plastic Injection Mould Tools.
Whether a low cost, low run prototype mould or a high volume tool requiring robotic handling, S.B.Weston have the design and build experience required to carry out the job.
As an additional option, we can offer either UK tooling here at our plant in Sunbury-on-Thames, or overseas tooling with one of our approved foreign toolmakers, allowing you the decision as to which scenario best suits your project.
Computer Aided Design (CAD)
Our designers will use the latest CAD software to produce the simplest most efficient tools possible to perform the production task required. The quality of the tool is never compromised but the cost of tool features is always considered and kept to a minimum.
Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM)
CAM is the use of computer-based software which enables our toolmakers to manufacture injection mould tools from computer-aided design (CAD) program models. Its primary purpose when manufacturing your injection mould tool is to create a faster production process ensuring precise dimensional tollerances. We have CAM facilities onsite and a trained operator ready to work on your project.
